Welcome to week 2 of the fantasy season. There’s a lot to talk about, so let’s just get to it.

First up, our #19 ranked Huskies! Half our league was able to attend the game vs Boise State, and what a game it was! UW christened Husky Stadium with a good ol’ fashion Idaho ass-beating. It was a beautiful day, the stadium was incredible, the crowd was loud and Keith Price’s smile was bright. Lots of bright spots on the offensive side. Bishop Sankey looked predictably great, as did his young backup Dwayne Washington. Keith Price looked like his old 2011 self, and Jaydon Mickens and John Ross looked like the difference makers this team needs. All that said, I think the most impressive performance came from the UW defensive unit. Though they allowed over 300 yards, they kept Boise out of the endzone, and nearly shut them out in the second half. It was an all around dominant performance against a good team.

Now our Dawgs have a good road test in Chicago against Illinois. This game sure looked like a bit of a gimmie this summer, but after the Illini handed a whoopin to a decent team in Cincinnati we may have a challenge on our hands. Fortunately we will be getting the nation’s best TE in ASJ back, another weapon to add to a team chock full of them.

As excited as I am about the Huskies, gotta move on to fantasy. Let’s start with a recap of week one. I squeeked out the $5 award this week with big performances by my receivers, McCoy and the young TE, Jared Cook. Seth posted a respectable 139 points, 5th in the league last week, but drew the wrong opponent. Nick also had a big week thanks to Victor Cruz and A-Rodg, finishing just out of the money by 3 points.

Somehow the team with Peyton Manning and his unbelievable 60 points did NOT win the money. That team, of course, was Big Red, who also had big games from Wes Welker and Anquan Boldin, though the latter (and his 39 big ones) were on the bench! Combine this with a big goose egg from her TE, Sudfeld, and she earned herself the season’s first Wayne Award. She won her matchup, but with the right roster moves, she could have won the $5.

One final award to hand out. Every year we like to commemorate our league’s most “interesting” draft decision: Darren McFadden in his rookie year selected #9 overall by my beautiful and intelligent wife, Sarah. The award is named the “Sarah Hearts Darren McFadden” Award and goes to the most questionable draft choice for that year. I had a problem this year though: you all drafted really well! I’ve reviewed, and while I disagree with some choices, I can’t really make fun of any of your choices, so well done! However, there was one draft choice particular that I believe deserves recognition with this award. When the fourth round came around, Sarah already had two solid RBs, but there was one out there who she couldn’t pass up. I like to think that music played in her head/heart (specifically, Righteous Brothers) when she selected Darren McFadden for the third time in six years. It seems too fitting to pass up, so the winner of the 2013 Sarah Hearts Darren McFadden Award is Sarah, for drafting Darren McFadden.

Finally, I’m going to end with my preseason ratings and divisional rankings. Like last year, I had some fun going through all your teams, assigning grades to each position group and coming up with some form of “objective” division rankings. I essentially formed my own weighting system based on how important I think each position group is, then graded each position group on a 1-10 scale. Here’s the divisional rankings from last year with my preseason ranks in parentheses for your review:

Sonny Sixkiller Division:
1. Joel (1)
2. Matt (3)
3. Bryson (2)
4. Cathy (4)

Keith Price Division:
1. Seth (3)
2. Randy (1)
3. Chris (4)
4. Gary (2)

Brock Huard Division:
1. Nick (4)
2. Joe (2)
3. Sarah (1)
4. Brent (3)

As you can see, my preseason ranks weren’t very accurate, but it’s still fun to critique you all. Without further ado, here is what I think of your team:

Steve Emtman Division

1. Little Lebowski Urban Achievers (6.0): QB – 5; RB – 7; WR – 5; TE – 8; DEF – 4
Four-peat? With good running back depth and nice pair of top receivers, overall is looking good, though the third WR slot is suspect.

2. Smooth Troopers (6.0): QB – 7; RB – 6; WR – 5; TE – 7; DEF – 6
Overall a very solid team though also missing that third receiver. I’m doubtful of Hartline as a long-term option.

3. Team Never-Nude (6.0): QB – 6.5; RB – 8; WR 4; TE – 4; DEF – 5
I’m jealous of the Ray Rice and Darren Sproles tandem in our PPR format. If only he had another receiver besides Andre Johnson….

4. Style Points (5.4): QB – 5; RB – 7.5; WR – 4; TE – 3; DEF – 4
Like a lot of this division, great running back depth. Unfortunately the remainder of her team is the weakest. Nonetheless, I respect her homer dedication with three rostered Seahawks!

Danny Shelton Division

1. America’s Most Dangerous (6.4): QB – 9; RB – 5; WR – 6.5; TE – 7; DEF – 7
Matt gets the nod in this division because his RBs are the least marginal. Nice depth at receiver and Brees help balance out an overall strong team.

2. Loose Nuts (6.1): QB – 8; RB – 4; WR – 6; TE 10; DEF - 7
Fits with the theme of this division: sub-par running backs. While Jamaal Charles is undeniably great, Lamar Miller, Mark Ingram and Isaiah Pead are not suitable RB2s. Love the QB options with Luck and Vick though!

3. Big Red (6.0): QB – 9; RB – 4; WR – 7; TE – 7; DEF – 4
See above, only replace Miller, Ingram and Pead with DeAngelo Williams, Montee Ball and Robert Turbin. When her QB drops a cool 60 though, we should all pay attention.

4. Adios Tyrone Hondo (5.6): QB – 3; RB – 4; WR – 8; TE – 6; DEF – 9
Tony Romo is not a viable starting option at QB, and Bradshaw is a suspect RB2. I think this is the strongest receiving corps in the league for now though, at that is enough to make this crew respectable.

Tank Johnson Division

1. 2 Vicks 1 Pup (6.9): QB – 7; RB – 6; WR – 7; TE – 8; DEF – 9
RBs are thin, but AD makes up for it. Rest of this team is rock solid.

2. Joey’s Oakland Animals (6.5): QB – 6; RB – 7; WR 6.5; TE – 7; DEF – 4
Not a flashy team, but good depth at RB and lots of sneaky value at WR. Should have staying power this year!

3. Third Prize: You’re Fired (6.5): QB – 10; RB – 7; WR – 4; TE – 6; DEF – 7
Aaron Rodgers, and some good RBs. Other than that we’re missing some guys for a championship caliber team….though A-Rodg is certainly enough to win you games from time to time.

4. Chris Akiba’s Flaming Romos (5.8): QB – 8; RB – 6.5; WR – 2; TE – 8; DEF - 9
WR corps is frighteningly bad, and I don’t think Tom Brady and Dougie are enough to make up for it.

That’s all for this week folks! I’ll work on getting the rules and spreadsheet links working and added to the bottom of these updates for your future review. Good luck to all of you, and Go Dawgs!
